It’s easy for me to get excited about this review. I hate bad smells. The Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail eliminates bad smells, so naturally I like this product. I don’t have any experience with similar items such as the Diaper Genie. I can’t compare it to any others, but that won’t stop me from giving it a thumbs up.
The overall construction isn’t all that impressive, but it makes it light weight and easy to move around. The plastic bags, however, are pretty durable and have held up against some heavy loads (we tend to fill our pail to the brim). They also snap shut when it’s time to change them out. The ceiling under the lid pours a little baking soda after each use; an added line of defense against the foul surprises baby leaves in each diaper. When you lift the lid the bag opens up, then cinches down when brought to a close. At full capacity the lid won’t close and makes a popping sound. You could force it closed, but I doubt this is good for the innards.
Dad says: Works great. Contains the smells and is easily sealed when it’s time to change the plastic bag, so you don’t have to worry about any unwanted messes. One concern I have is if you have any toddlers around. The door on the side could be easily opened. This isn’t that big of a concern, but I thought of it only because that is where we keep our extra plastic bags, you don’t want the little guys playing with those.
The plastic bags are pricey. We average about 1 bag every week and 1/2. This rate has stayed consistent as our baby grows. Yes, over time we use bigger diapers, but we are also using less of them, so it evens out.
Mom says: Easy enough to use. It is fast and simple to change the bags. I have read some complaints that the hole is small and might be a problem for trying to squeeze some messy diapers through. This hasn’t been a problem for us. I just make sure to wrap the diapers up and use the wings to tighten it down into a nice sealed pack. No squirts or explosions have occurred.
Baby says: Oh come on… it doesn’t smell that bad.

I am giving this product 4 out of 5 bottles. It works great and keeps the smells out, but the price of its plastic bags and limited durability keeps it from getting a perfect score.
General: Like I mentioned previously, the plastic bags can get expensive over time. It is something to consider before committing to this product. Ease of use is probably the biggest concern when searching for a diaper pail. Many times you only have one hand available when trying to throw away a dirty diaper. Having a pail that is easy to open and close is important. The Arm and Hammer pail is a little short. Depending on where you want to set up your diaper pail, you may want to consider taller options.
